1st Half MVP for Cincinnati Reds is…..

This 2023 MLB season is half way through with lots of breakout stars and surprising teams. No team is more shocking in the first half than the Cincinnati Reds and their electric group of rookies leading the way. Elly De La Cruz has taken the sports world by storm since he was called up on June 6th leading the Reds to a 1st Place push in the NL Central.


One player that has been a consistent workhorse and does not get enough credit is Spencer Steer. Steer made his MLB debut last September and finished 2022 with 108 Plate appearances with a .211 Batting Average. So far this 2023 season, Spencer Steer has been everything for the NL Central leading Reds. Steer leads the Reds in Hits(90), Doubles(19), Homeruns (14), Walks(42), and Total Bases(155). While also 2nd on the team with 51 RBIs, .477 Slug, .844 OPS and 121 OPS+. He does this while being a Utility fielder logging 57 games at 3rd, 26 at 3rd Base and 12 games in the Outfield.




Going into the 2nd Half of the season, the Cincinnati Reds hold a 1 game lead on the Milwaukee Brewers and hold a +120 Odds to win the division. Cincinnati currently ranks 5th in MLB in Average Age of 27.1 with Joey Votto(39) the only player over age 35. With this young of a team, they are top 5 in the league in: Runs, Walks, OBP, and lead the league in Stolen Bases.


The Cincinnati Reds currently have 4 prospects in the Top 100 MLB prospects that are not yet up in the majors. One player that can contribute towards the 2023 playoff push is Christian Encarnacion-Strand who currently is tearing up AAA with a .321 Batting Average with 20 HRs and 58 RBIs.
